Our client is a market leader in in detection technology, providing cargo and vehicle inspection systems and services for ports, borders, military, high-threat facilities, and checkpoints.

The Head of Operations will play a critical role in the next phase of the business. You will provide governance across all aspects of Operations (Supply Chain, Logistics, Planning & Production). This position will suit an Operations Manager with prior experience for the overall responsibility of all these aspects, and who has experience of heavy industry, low volume Electro-mechanical products.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Operations:

  • Direct the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives
  • Plan and administer procedures and budgets, making budgetary recommendations and at higher levels, controls capital expenditures and direct/indirect labour
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function
  • Provide senior management leadership for the departments while leading and driving the efforts of the entire team
  • Develop and implement succinct key performance metrics for UK Operations tied to US corporate goals
  • Work closely with key suppliers (working with supply chain management) to implement streamlined processes and establish partnering relationships
  • Establish and train appropriate staff levels to grow the organisation into a world class operation with
  • Develop and manage master production schedule and operations budgets
  • Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achieving of overall business objectives
  • Develop the appropriate organisational structure and resource plans to support business objectives
  • Manage facilities, resource planning and execution of business objectives
  • Drive operational efficiencies, with a clear focus on the design, build and delivery of world class quality products within budget and on schedule – while meeting and exceeding product margin goals
  • Engage and work with product line management, engineering, service and other departments to incorporate best practices into the operations environment
  • Ensuring that fundamental business metrics are in sync with overall company goals plus accurately forecasted, planned for, measured and achieved
  • Drive change to meet the strategic objectives of the business

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree (EU Equivalent) in science or engineering or equivalent
  • Master’s Degree (EU Equivalent) in Business Management or equivalent
  • Lean Six Sigma awareness or a formal qualification is desirable
  • Extensive experience in operational management in a fast-paced high technology, rapidly expanding organisation
  • Excellent people management skills, across various functional areas, to achieve common goals
  • Proven track record and ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve business successes
  • Great understanding of commercial business elements, with focus on performance measures
  • Ability to set up processes and controls for various business functions
  • Working knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Demonstrate experience in growing capability of a site, cost control, product cost reductions and margin improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex network of relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent understanding of manufacturing concepts, project management, planning and inventory control
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, excellent formal and informal communication with periodic presentations and reports to senior management
  • Performance and results oriented and be able to develop, motivate and lead strong, effective, teams
  • International travel may be required
  • Experience of dotted reporting lines and working with US or overseas holding Company
